Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating the types of directive speech act used in Avengers Endgame movie. The study was qualitative study in which the use of directive speech act was observed. The objects of the study were the utterances stated in the movie. The subject was the movie itself. Two instruments were applied in this study involving the researcher and observation sheet. The results of the study showed that there were five types of directive speech act used in the movie, asking (66.7%), commands (22.64%), suggestions (5.31%), requests (3.15%), and advises (2.2%). The results of the study can give contribution to pragmatics study as example in teaching speech act. In addition, it can be as references for people who want to identify utterance in the communication or movie.
