Abstract

This study aims to identify signboard and banner promotion in terms of language distribution, the combination of linguistic and non-linguistic elements used, and the strategies implemented on the signboard. This research was designed using descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was conducted using photographic techniques on 142 culinary business signboards and banner promotion data from culinary centers, including traditional food stalls, modern food stalls, and fast food restaurants located in Singaraja City, Buleleng, Bali. Linguistic Landscape, bilingual-multilingual writing, and Linguistics and Semiotics strategy are used to analyze the data collected. The study's results were as follows: 69.77% of one-language signs were in Indonesian, the most bilingual signs were in Indonesian and Arabic (about 36.5%), and researchers only found four signs with more than one language on them. Seventy-five percent of the signs were written in English, twenty-five percent were written in English, and ten percent were written in Thai. Then signboards with analysis found by researchers regarding linguistic aspects are combined with non-linguistic elements, such as indexes, icons, and symbols, on outdoor signboards. The semiotic strategy used includes manipulating strategies, imitating strategy, imitating and mimicry strategy, complementary strategy, fragmentation strategy, and overlapping strategy.
