Abstract
This study aims to describe the types of swear words used by actors on Jem Tattoo’s You Tube videos, the function of swear words in Jem Tattoo’s You Tube videos and the responses of the viewers in Jem Tattoo’s You Tube videos. The subjects of this research are 12 videos that use swear words in Jem Tattoo YouTube videos. This is a descriptive qualitative research that provides an overview of the swear words used by the actors in Jem Tattoo’s YouTube videos. The data was collected through observation techniques. This research uses observation checklist. The researcher found 35 swear words used in Jem Tattoo YouTube videos. The swear words are categorized into 9 types. It could be concluded that the most swear words used in Jem Tattoo’s videos. There are 9 types of swearwords found, namely the ones that are categories as; religion, body, function, excrement, animal terms, activity, personal background, mental illness, devils and kinship type. And there are functions of swear words: to draw attention, to provoke, to create interpersonal identifications, to provide catharsis, integrative, aggressive, regressive, and emphasis. And there are 4 categories responses of the video viewers: supportive comments, neutral comments, unrelated comments and hateful comments. The general function of using swear words in this study is to entertain.
