Abstract

This study examines the role of parents with diverse educational backgrounds in supporting potentially dyslexic second-grade elementary school students in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) acquisition. This study aims to find out parents' understanding of dyslexia and the methodologies they use to facilitate their children's learning process. Qualitative case study methodology was used to collect data through observations conducted in a school located in the center of Singaraja city, with interviews with four parents representing two different levels of education: high and less educated. The results show that educated parents use many different resources every day, such as structured tutoring and digital learning tools. Less educated parents, on the other hand, generally rely on learning by doing and leave everything to the school. This study also found that educated parents look for additional learning tools and talk to teachers about how their children are doing. On the other hand, less educated parents usually find it difficult to provide continuous support to their children at home because they don't know enough. Many rely entirely on teachers and believe that learning problems are just a phase their children must overcome. These differences highlight the importance of parent education and school collaboration in helping students with dyslexia succeed in English language learning, as well as the need for more accessible resources and training to support parents in nurturing their children's literacy development.
