Abstract
ABSTRACT Dharma, Ketut Pande Bagus Wahyu Surya (2023), Language Production in Indonesian-Balinese Bilingual Twins. Tesis, Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Program Pascasarjana, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. This thesis has been approved and examined by Supervisor I and Supervisor II Keywords: bilingual twin, language acquisition, language production This study aimed to determine 1) the language production by the bilingual twins in the Balinese language, 2) the language production by bilingual twins in the Indonesian language, and 3) the language mixing codes uttered by the bilingual twins. The study was designed in the case study. It involved two bilingual children who were engaged with Indonesian and Balinese. The data were obtained from a sound recorder, observation sheet, and checklist. The result of the study showed that 1) the language production of twins in the Balinese language at three years old involved single-word utterances and word formation utterances. Most of the words are nouns and verbs; 2) the language production of twins in the Indonesian language at three years old involved single-word utterances and word formation utterances. In multi-word utterances, the children produce only words and phrases. There are no full sentences they can produce; and 3) code mixing used by children is in the form of declarative, imperative, and interrogative sentences. In code-mixing, the utterances mix the words between nouns or verbs.
