Abstract
This research aims to identify signboards at three tourist attractions in Banjar District, namely BrahmaVihara Arama Banjar, Air Panas Banjar and Krisna Funtastic Land, in terms of language distribution, the function of the language on the signboards and the language attitudes of sign makers towards the language used on the signboards in three tourist places in Banjar District, Bali. This research was designed using qualitative descriptive research, and data collection was carried out using documentation techniques. Linguistic landscape, proposed by Landry and Bourhis (1997), is the visibility and salience of language on public and commercial signs in a particular area. The results of the research are as follows: 53% of the three tourist attractions in Banjar District, namely BrahmaVihara Arama, use monolingual signs in English, the highest amount of bilingual signs were in Indonesian and English (about 55.3%) and multilingual signs only nine signs were found in Brahma Vihara Arama, Banjar Hot Springs and Krisna Funtastic Land. The function of languages on public space signs in three tourist attractions in Banjar District (BrahmaVihara Arama, Banjar Hot Springs and Krisna Funtastic Land) was found to be informational, symbolic, mythological and commercial. These four functions were analyzed based on the theory from Yanhong and Rungruang (2013) regarding the function of language on public space signs. Regarding language, attitudes determined by readers or business people were analyzed using Li and Wei's theory, which divides language attitudes into three main aspects, namely cognitive, affective and behavioural. From the cognitive aspect, it was found that English is the language with the highest position when it is related to work and interaction in the tourism industry. In the affective aspect, people respect Balinese as their mother language. In the behavioural aspect, people in Banjar district show their respect for English as the language that they will use for work and never leave the implementation of this language on their outdoor sign because their market is international tourists.
