Abstract

This research aims to: (1) determine the needs of students and teachers regarding learning materials based on the Emancipated Curriculum, (2) develop learning materials for first semester 4th grade elementary school students based on the Emancipation Curriculum, and (3) determine the quality of developed English learning material. This research conducted by using the Design and Development research model by Richey and Klein (2014) which has four stages; analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The data obtained was collected using data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews, distributing questionnaires, and document analysis. The data obtained were analysed using qualitative methods by Miles, Huberman, & Saldaña, (2014), and quantitative method by the formula from Nurkancana and Sunartana, (1992). The findings of this research show that (1) the needs of teachers and students regarding learning materials are that, teachers need additional materials to support the use of the book "My Next Words" and teachers need differentiated book to support learning in class. This research also found students' specific needs for learning materials in the form of visual, text, audio and outdoor learning activities. (2) Learning materials are developed by designing and developing using the Canva application. 3) The quality of the learning material for 4th grade elementary school students has been assessed by two experts and two users through expert judgment and user judgment and received the "Excellent" category and it also said to be valid for use as a learning medium to assist teachers in conducting English lessons in the implementation of the emancipated curriculum, especially in differentiated learning.
