Abstract
This study aims to examine the aspects of cohesion and coherence in descriptive paragraphs written by eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja. Using a mixed-method approach, the research analyzed the students' writing through both qualitative and quantitative methods. The results show that 82% of students demonstrated strong coherence by following the descriptive text structure and using cohesive devices, such as lexical cohesion (43.54%) and reference (32.99%), to maintain clarity and logical flow. However, 18% of students still faced challenges in developing their topic sentences cohesively. Despite this, no students were found to have incoherent writing. The results suggest that students can write coherent descriptive paragraphs and use cohesive devices correctly to link ideas smoothly. However, some students still struggle to maintain consistency and logical flow in their writing. The analysis reveals that while most students demonstrate good writing skills, a small percentage still face challenges in developing a cohesive structure throughout their paragraphs. These findings highlight the need for teachers to emphasize the importance of cohesion and coherence in writing. By understanding and applying these concepts correctly, students can produce well-structured and effective texts. Key words : coherence, cohesion, and descriptive paragraph
