Abstract

Situmorang, Lidya Cristina Febriani (2025). Foreign Language Enjoyment Using Game-Based Learning: The Effect of Wordwall on Students’ Engagement and Speaking Proficiency. Thesis, English Language Education, Postgraduate program, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. Keywords: Engagement, Foreign Language Enjoyment, Game-Based Learning, Speaking Proficiency, Wordwall This research investigates the effect of Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) through game-based learning using Wordwall on students’ engagement and speaking proficiency. The research was conducted to address the lack of interactive tools that supports enjoyable and effective language learning in higher education. A quasi-experimental nonequavalent control group design was used, involving 69 second-semester students from the Global Workplace English Program (GWEP) at Horizon University Indonesia. The experimental group (n=39) was taught using Wordwall, while the control group (n=30) used traditional. Data were collected through a speaking proficiency test and a student engagement questionnaire. Both instruments were tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using One-Way MANOVA. The findings showed a significant simultaneous effect of Wordwall on students’ engagement and speaking proficiency (p < .05). It indicates that Wordwall can be an effective digital tool to promote enjoyment that affect engagement and speaking proficiency. This research contributes to theoretical insights into the Foreign Language Enjoyment in language learning and provides practical implications for English language teaching.
