Abstract

The study aimed at analyzing problems and solutions of online English teaching instruction during Covid-19 pandemic. The study was descriptive qualitative. The subject were three English teachers in SMK Negeri 2 Seririt who were selected by purposive sampling. The study focused on problems and solutions of 3 aspects including planning, implementing and assessing. The data were collected through observation and interview. In terms of planning, the problems were: 1) the English teachers find several difficulties in planning online learning; 2) the online planning cannot be done optimally through the online platform, and 3) the English teachers find several difficulties in designing online teaching materials. In terms of implementing, it showed that: 1) students have lack of motivation during pandemic and 2) The implementation of the curriculum 2013 which emphasizes student-centered learning is still not implemented optimally. In terms of assessing, it was clear that: 1) students’ learning outcomes have decreased, and 2) the online lesson plan needs more improvement. Based on those problems, the solution in planning is that the teachers use lesson plan based MGMP and modify it into online learning. In implementing, teachers create attractive learning material. In evaluating, English teachers do remedial test and improve the learning process.
