Abstract

Supporting the 4C Skills of the Seventh Grade Junior High School Students. Thesis, English Language Education, Postgraduate Study Program, Ganesha University of Education. This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I: Prof. Dra. Luh Putu Artini, M.A., Ph.D. and Supervisor II: Dr. Ni Putu Era Marsakawati, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: guidebook, task based language teaching, 21st century learning skills In 21st century education, the students are required to have communicative competence in English as well as be engaged thinkers, creative problem solvers and actively take part in their communities. The activities in the seventh grade English handbook entitled “When English Rings a Bell” had not supported the development of the students’ critical thinking communication, collaboration and creativity (4C) skills maximally. Besides, the existing learning activities provided insufficient activities to facilitate the communicative use of the target language for students. This study aimed at designing and developing Task Based Language Teaching for supporting the 4C skills of the seventh grade junior high school students. Task Based Language Teaching is expected to fill in the requirements of the 4C skills and to design a communicative lesson for EFL students. This study employed design and development research design proposed by Richey and Klein (2007). The product developed was in a form of guidebook for teacher completed with photocopiable handouts for students. Based on the result of content validity, the guidebook has a very high validity since the result of the interrater agreement is 1. Meanwhile, the result of the questionnaire given to the seventh grade English teachers show that the mean score is 120.5. Based on the result of the questionnaire analysis using the formula according to Candiasa (2010), the guidebook is categorized as having a good quality learning material. Therefore, this guidebook can be a learning source in conducting English teaching and learning for seventh grade junior high school students.
