Abstract
Constructivism is a very important pedagogical paradigm that invite teachers to allow students construct their knowledge according to the students’ respective developments. Teachers can learn about constructivism from many sources including examples from teachers in children’s literature, such as Roald Dahl’s novel entitled Matilda. By using Miles, Huberman & Saldaña’s (2014) interactive model of data analysis, the present study aimed to know the existence of constructivist classroom elements proposed by Dangel et al. (2004) in Miss Honey's class by seeing her characterizations. This present study revealed Miss Honey as a teacher at primary school with several unique characterizations. The results show that Miss Honey had 11 characterizations namely, caring, compassionate, supportive, helpful, dedicated, persistent, intelligent, curious, wise, confident, and independent. The strongest characterization was helpful with 17 sequences. Based on those characterizations it was identified that Miss Honey represents 5 types of common elements of constructivist classroom such as, physical environment, social environment, linguistic environment, intellectual development, and curriculum. The strongest element found in sub-element of linguistic environment with 4 sequences. The representation of constructivist classroom elements in Miss Honey's characterizations can be valuable information for the readers or teachers who may use the constructivist approach as their teaching strategy.
