Abstract

This study aimed to identify the values of character education in the characterization of Simba in The Lion King (1994) movie. This study was a descriptive qualitative study in which textual analysis was used in order to analyze the data where the data in the form of movie were treated like a text and analyzed in a cycling process in order to obtain the dependable data. The result of this study showed that The Lion King (1994) contained all values of character education which stated by Ministry of Education and Culture (2017). The values of character education was shown in different timing through the characterization of Simba where in the beginning of the movie there were 9 characters, while in the middle part there were 11 characters, and finally, in the end part of the movie there was 1 character which made a great development in Simba’s characterization. Through this study, it proved that The Lion King (1994) was a suitable movie for children which contained values of character education.
