Abstract

This study aimed to develop project-based learning material provided with shape poem technique in teaching communication skills for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Framed within a research and development (RnD) design with ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model by Richey and Klein (2007), the study employed interview, document study, and observation as the methods with an interview guide, checklist and an observation sheet as the instruments to collect the data. The developed product was categorized as ‘very high validity’ and ‘excellent’ by the two expert judges for its content and media quality with score 1,00 for the content validity and 100 for the product quality by the two judges including expert and user. After implementing and evaluating the product, the findings pointed out that the developed product is effective to improve students’ communication skills proven by the improvement of their vocabulary, ability to give appropriate response, and eye contact.
