Abstract

This study explored the level of Online Assessment Literacy (OAL) among in-service English teachers in junior high schools in Jembrana, Bali. As online learning becomes more common in education, teachers’ ability to create, implement, and evaluate assessment using digital platform becomes important. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional design involved 48 English teachers from Jembrana. The data were collected through a adopted questionnaire consisting of 28 items measuring various dimensions of OAL, including conceptual knowledge, practical skills, and ethical understanding. The results showed that the majority of teachers fell into the “fair” category. Furthermore, this study showed that demographic factors such as gender, school type, teaching experience, and certification did not show significant differences in OAL scores. Also, educational background showed a better result, but statistically did not significantly impact OAL scores, where teachers with a master’s degree demonstrating higher OAL proficiency than those with a bachelor’s degree. The research findings suggest that teachers need more training to assess students using digital technology. Furthermore, the study reminds us that teachers' ability to use technology is crucial and offers practical suggestions for future teacher training programs.
