Abstract

ABSTRACT Gusti Ayu Putu Ari Utami (2020), Developing English Material for Food and Beverage Service for XI Grade Students of SMK SMSR Ubud. Thesis, English Language Education, Postgraduate Study Program, Ganesha University of Education. This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Adi Jaya Putra, M.A., and supervisor II Dr. Dewa Putu Ramendra, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: English Learning Materials, Food, and beverage service This study aimed at describing the English for Food and beverage service materials needed by XI Grade students of SMK SMSR Ubud. This study employed a research and development model suggested by Richey & Klein (2007) comprising design, development, and evaluation. The instruments used were questionnaires, interview guides, document analysis, and checklist. The questionnaires were handed out to 35 students, and the interview was conducted with one ESP teacher and student, one stakeholder at SMK SMSR Ubud, and one stakeholder at Bridges Bali restaurant to gain the need analysis. The findings of this study show that there were 7 topics needed to be developed included Preparing the restaurant area, preparing and set up the table, greeting the guest, taking the order, serving food, closing the restaurant area, and a nonalcoholic beverage. The materials designed used were suggested by (Hutchinson & Waters, 1987) involving input, content focus, language focus, and task. The expert judgment checklist was distributed to three expert judges to assess the quality of the product. The categorization of good teaching material proposed by Nurkancana & Suartana (2011) was used after gaining the scores from the expert judges. The product quality was categorized as Good Material. The Product was completed with a compact disk (CD) for the listening Task. Thus, it can be used as the main source for learning English for food and beverage service at SMK SMSR Ubud.
