Abstract

This research aimed to develop a displayed flipbook as teaching material for assisting the teacher in teaching English in online learning for fourth-grade elementary school students. The design used in this research was D&D (Design and Development) research by Richey and Klein (2005), which has three stages, namely design, development, and evaluation. The data were collected through interviews and document analysis. There were two instruments used in this research, namely, interview guide and expert judgment. The subject of this research was the English teacher at SD No. 5 Jimbaran. The product made in this research was judged based on fourteen criteria of a good displayed flipbook, which were adapted from Prasetiyo & Perwiraningtyas (2017); Rambe & Saragih (2016); Tomlinson & Masuhara (2004); Nida & et al. (2020); Tomlinson (1998). The result was a flipbook with four chapters where each chapter consisted of four English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The result of content validity judgment which was analyzed using Gregory Formula showed that the flipbook was highly relevant to the fourteen criteria of good displayed flipbook with revisions. Meanwhile, the result of quality judgment measured using a formula as cited by Nnurkancana and Sunartana (1992) showed that the flipbook was categorized as good teaching material. Thus, the flipbook made by the researcher was a good teaching material to help the teacher teach English in online learning.
