Abstract
In Indonesia, learning a foreign language has become increasingly important, given its significance beyond the native language. The country's low ranking in reading proficiency, as evidenced by the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), underscores the need for further investigation into reading skills at the university level. This study specifically aims to analyze the level and factors of reading anxiety among second-semester students enrolled in the critical reading course within the English Language Education Department. The research design adopted for this study is an Embedded Mixed Method, and participants were selected from the IKI 2 class using Purposive Sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, and subsequent analysis involved descriptive and interactive techniques. The findings suggest that students in the second semester of the English Language Education Department have a moderate level of reading anxiety, with the fear of making errors identified as the primary contributing factor. In light of these results, it is recommended that teachers adopt a more creative teaching approach to stimulate students' interest in reading, provide diverse learning experiences, and ultimately enhance their skills and self-confidence.
