Abstract
This study emphasizes the importance of role play as a solution to the issues identified in the preliminary study. Role play provides a contextual learning environment that helps students overcome unfamiliarity problems and improve their English speaking skills in a job seeking interview. The researcher aims to explore how role play can enhance the speaking skills of students at Bali Crystal College and whether it can be an alternative method for learning a foreign language. The study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with four main stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Two cycles were used, involving 16 students in the Housekeeping class at Bali Crystal College. The research used tests, observation sheets, and questionnaires to measure the effectiveness of role play in improving students' speaking skills and to gauge their perception of the technique. The research findings indicate an improvement in students' speaking skills after the implementation of role play, with the average score increasing from 67.375 in cycle 1 to 74.975 in cycle 2. Additionally, students had a positive perception to role play activities, as evidenced by their high average score 3.9191 on the questionnaire, it can be considered 4 which is positive in Likert scale. The study concludes that role play effectively improves students' speaking skills and is positively perceived by the students at Bali Crystal College. The implementation involved using simple vocabularies and minimizing the use of the native language to increase English exposure for the students.
