Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk: (1) to identify the taboo words, (2) to identify their forms, and (3) to analyze their references. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian descriptive qualitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan di desa Tanjung Karang, Kecamatan Sebatik, Kabupaten Nunukan, Provinsi Kalimantan Utara. Data primer dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik in-depth interview. Peneliti bertindak sebagai instrument utama yang dilengkapi instrument lain berupa interview sheet, dan memanfaatkan tiga informan yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria yang telah ditentukan sebelumnya. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian, yaitu: taboo words, forms, and references yang terkait dalam penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan Teori Frazer (1955) dan Montagu (1973). Theori Frazer digunakan untuk menganalisis nama dan kata – kata taboo, sedangkan Theori Montagu (1973) digunakan untuk menganalisis sumpah serapah yang juga dalam bentuk kata- kata taboo. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) terdapat 45 taboo words yang dapat dikelompokkan berdasarkan, the use of taboo words in relation to that harmony with God yang berjumlah 5 taboo words, the use of taboo words in relation to that harmony with people berjumlah 35 taboo words dan the use of taboo words in relation to that harmony with environment berjumlah 5 taboo words. (2) terkait taboo forms ditemukan; berjumlah 23 taboo names and taboo words, dan pada bagian swearing words berjumlah 22. And (3) terkait reference of taboo terdapat 16 references, yaitu: (a) parents name berjumlah 3, (b) animals name berjumlah 6, (c) people name who died berjumlah 1, (d) mentioning genitals berjumlah 2, (e) sexul activity berjumlah 1, (f) specific profession berjumlah 5, (g) bodily function berjumlah 4, (h) nature berjumlah 4, (i) illness berjumlah 1, (j) name of spirits berjumlah 3, (k) personal pronouns berjumlah 1, and (l) specific activity berjumlah 14.
