Abstract

This study examines the linguistic landscape of Hotels and Restaurants in Jimbaran. The purpose of this study is to describe the language distribution and the types of information written on Hotel and Restaurant signboards. This research employs a qualitative approach. The theoretical framework used in this study includes the theory of Landry and Bourhis, which defines linguistic landscape and analyzes the languages used on signboards. Additionally, Scollon and Scollon’s theory is applied to analyze the information written on the Hotel and Restaurant signboards in Jimbaran. The subjects of this study consist of 100 photographs of Hotel and Restaurant signboards, which are categorized into three types: monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual signs. The findings reveal that several languages are used on the signboards, including Balinese, Indonesian, English, and Chinese. English is the most dominant language used across all categories, appearing on 57 monolingual signboards,30 bilingual signboards, and 4 multilingual signboards. The study identified ten types of information written on the Hotel and Restaurant signboards in Jimbaran: type of accommodation (Hotels and Restaurants) on 29 signboards, facilities information on 15 signboards, contact details on 7 signboards, place names on 99 signboards, opening hours on 9 signboards, food and beverage information on 25 signboards, availability of discount on 3 signboards, jargons on 11 signboards, and price information on 2 signboards. Among these, the most frequently written type of information is the name of the place, which appears on 99 signboards.
