Abstract
English literacy is a prerequisite for young learners to expand their knowledge and 21st century competence internationally. Indonesia’s curriculum provided literacy program to students limited in Indonesian and literacy based activities do not result as what are expected in the process. The present study aims at developing literacy-based activities for teaching English for young learners in level A (4-5 years old). This study is design and Development (D&d) study which is mainly uses the theory of Richey and Klein (2007). This model consisted of four steps. They were analysis, design, development and evaluation. The teacher and level A students at bilingual kindergarten were used as the instruments. The findings showed that the product evaluation sheet resulted 4 as the minimum score given by four expert judges. As the implication, literacy based activities developed for teaching young learners have been suitable for the level A students in kindergarten. Furthermore, it is expected that the teacher’s book can be used to facilitate students in improving their literacy skills.
