Abstract

ABSTRACT Brenda Khanadi (2023), Analysing Five Core Values Of Character Education In English Textbooks For Junior High School From Cognitive, Social, And Emotional Perspective. Thesis, English Language Education, Post-Graduate Program, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I: Dr. Ni Komang Arie Suwastini, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Supervisor II: Dr. Putu Suarcaya, M.Sc. Keywords: five core values, character education, textbook, early adolescent dimension. This study aims to find the five core values of character education instilled in the three textbooks in the junior high school level and related to the cognitive, social and emotional dimensions of students as early adolescences. This study uses a qualitative interactive model through textual analysis. This study obtained three findings, show that: First, the religious value is the highest value instilled in the three textbooks, then follow by nationalist value, collaboration value, independent value, and the lowest value on integrity value. Second, the frequency of representations of the five core character education values in 8th grade textbooks is higher than in 7th and 9th grade textbooks. Third, attention to the social and emotional dimensions of early adolescent students in the textbooks is still low. Then, the five core values of character education have been described in the three textbooks with not balanced fluctuations appearance and lack of attention to the value of representing social and emotional dimensions in early adolescent students. This research is expected to be able to provide input for the textbooks improvement and the application of the five educational values in the classroom.
