Abstract

This study aimed at 1) identifying the jargons used, 2) identifying and analyzing the word formation, 3) identifying and describing the meaning of jargons used by the Front Office Department at The Lovina Bali. The jargons used by the staff in the Front Office Departement were analyzed respectively by Allan and Burriged’s (2006) theory, Yule (2006) theory and Hornby (1995) theory. This study was descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were the staff in the Front Office Department at The Lovina Bali. The data were obtained using 3 instruments; checklist, tape recorder, and interview guide. This study found that 160 types of jargons used by the staff in the Front Office Department at The Lovina Bali. The jargons were found the total amount of noun phrase 73 items (45,6%), noun 26 items (16,2%), abbreviation 23 items (14,4%), verb 4 items (2,5%), borrowing 2 items (1,2%), adjective 5 items (3,1%), clipping 6 items (3,8%), prepositional phrase 1 item (0,6%), compounding 9 items (5,6%), acronym 6 items (3,8%), affixation 3 items (1,9%), adjective phrase 1 item (0,6%), and adverb phrase 1 item (0,6%).
