Abstract

This study aims to develop a task-based English module for civil engineering students. This research was designed as a research and development using the ADDIE model. Questionnaires, document sheets, expert sheets, and tests were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that 1) students need a learning module that covers English for Occupational Purposes, as they are engineering students. They need a learning module that includes learning tasks to engage students and engage in speaking activities; 2) Ten units are developed in the TBLT-EOP module, namely Unit 1. Civil Work Equipment, Unit 2. Soil Mechanics and Soil Testing, Unit 3. Recognizing Land Problems (Erosion and Abrasion), Unit 4. Describing the Construction Process, Unit 5. Foundation Construction, Unit 6. Concrete Production and Testing, Unit 7. Floor Plan, Unit 8. Construction Site Safety, Unit 9. Construction Cost Estimation and Unit 10. Building Maintenance. Each unit includes the same subunits. These subunits consist of pre-task, during-task, and post-task. The pre-task includes a snapshot. The main task includes conversation, focusing on grammar, reading, and writing. The post-task includes activities for the final task; 3) The developed CE EOP moduleis categorized as an excellent teaching material to be used in the learning process, with an average score of 4.5 from experts; and 4) The developed CE EOP modulehas a significant influence on the fluency aspect of students in speaking skills.
