Thesis, English Education, Post Graduate Study Program, Ganesha University of Education. This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I: Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ngurah Marhaeni, M .A., and Supervisor II: Dr. I. G. A. Lokita Purnamika Utami, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key words: peer assessment, reading comprehension, self-assessment This study aimed at: (1) finding out whether there is any significant difference between the effects of self-assessment and peer assessment on students’ reading comprehension, (2) finding out how self-assessment in reading comprehension lesson is implemented, and (3) finding out how peer assessment in reading comprehension lesson is implemented for students of SMP N 2 Mendoyo. The Design of the study is mixed method research design. The population was the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Mendoyo. The total number of students in the population was 296 students. There were three classes used in this study as the samples. Through cluster random sampling technique three classes (VIII E, VIII I, and VIII A) were chosen as the sample of the study. The data collections were analyzed by using one way ANOVA and the Post Hoc test that was Multiple Comparison using Tukey HSD test to collect quantitative data and observation sheet to collect qualitative data. The result of the data showed that; (1) there was significant difference between the effects of self-assessment and peer assessment on students’ reading comprehension (.000 < 0.05), (2) the teacher who implemented self-assessment in reading comprehension lesson has good progress in teaching, (3) the teacher who implemented peer assessment in reading comprehension lesson has good progress in teaching.
