Abstract
This study aimed to investigate teacher perceptions of the application of authentic assessment, the planning carried out and its application in the teaching and learning process. This study used qualitative research with narrative inquiry as the method. The subjects in this study were two English teachers who taught seventh grade and applied authentic assessment in the teaching process. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling that relevant to the criteria of the research and had uniqueness. The data in the research were collected through interviews to investigate teachers’ perception, document studies to investigate teachers’ planning and also supported by interview, and narrative frames combined with interview to investigate teachers’ implementation of authentic assessment. The trustworthiness was seen using data triangulation. The results showed that both teachers had positive perceptions. This perception was seen from the aspects of belief, knowledge, and positive attitudes were in line with what was planned and what was implemented. The two teachers planned authentic assessments following the Merdeka Curriculum guidelines. The teachers designed the learning flow and learning objectives based on learning achievement. In planning, teachers proposed projects and performance assessment technique to see students' productive abilities using rubric. In the implementation, the researcher found similarities what had been planned by teachers. Both teachers found some difficulties in implementing authentic assessment, but it can be solved well. Both teachers felt a positive impact from implementing authentic assessment and will use it on an ongoing basis and try to implement other techniques of authentic assessment. In improving the quality of teaching, teachers should follow workshop about authentic assessment. This study implies that authentic assessment is relevant and very good combined with authentic assessment. Project and performance were two good techniques to be implemented in the teaching and learning activity to know students ability in productive skills.
