Abstract

This study aimed to develop blended learning materials for English tailored to aviation students at AVIA Kampus Penerbangan Bali using the DnD model. The participants included representatives of staff managment, students at AVIA, and flight attendants. Data collection methods included questionnaires, observations, and expert evaluations. Questionnaires were used to identify the needed characteristics of the learning materials. Observations documented the development stages, and expert evaluations assessed the quality. The data from questionnaires and observations were analyzed qualitatively using an interactive model while expert evaluations were analyzed quantitatively based on theoretical assessment criteria. The study revealed that the learning materials should align with curriculum requirements and helped students develop effective communication skills essential for flight attendants. Senior flight attendants highlighted the importance of confidence-building and a hospitable demeanor in English communication, while students preferred content rich in multimedia, such as videos and mobile-friendly quizzes. The development process began with creating a blueprint that incorporated curriculum requirements, job demands, and student preferences. The printed materials included QR codes for online quizzes to facilitate a flipped learning approach. Each unit was designed with quizzes, audio, and illustrations, and a prototype was evaluated by content experts. The evaluations indicated that the developed learning materials were of very high quality. This study successfully developed high-quality blended learning materials for English tailored to aviation students at AVIA Kampus Penerbangan Bali, aligning with curriculum requirements and the specific needs of aviation professionals, particularly in effective communication skills essential for flight attendants. Regular updates and technological enhancements are suggested to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness. The successful implementation of these materials implied a more engaging and effective learning experience for aviation students, better preparation for aviation roles, and serves as a model for other educational institutions aiming to innovate and improve learning outcomes through blended approaches.
