Abstract

The existence of technology which influences humans’ life appears in several fields. One of those fields is entertainment technology with films being one of its kinds. Films can provide educational values through which character education is extracted. Finding Nemo from Disney, as one of the examples of films represents some of the educational values which help build the character education. This research, then, focused on identifying of character education of Marlin that belong to 18 values of character education values proposed by Indonesian Ministry of Education using Peirce’s semiotics. This research was a qualitative research with textual analysis being the method of data collection. From the result of this study, it is shown that there are 30 characterizations of Marlin. These characterizations are dedicated, sedulous, heroic, inquisitive, innovative, independent, adventurous, careful, receptive, understanding, sociable, playful, harmonious, truthful, thoughtful, fearless, brave, stubborn, settled, augophilia, inclusive, grateful, spiritual, restrained, resistant, tedious, offensive, exclusive, deceptive, and apprehensive. There are 18 characterizations of Marlin that belong to the values of character education, whereas in this study, Marlin possess 17 values of character education, namely democratic, hard-working, honest, curious, creative, autonomous, nature-loving, social care, tolerant, appreciative, friendly/communicative, religious, disciplined, responsible, patriotic and nationalistic.
