Abstract
Penelitian ini mengkaji pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan dalam dialog film Bumi Manusia yang disutradarai oleh Hanung Bramantyo dengan menerapkan teori kesantunan Geoffrey Leech dan perspektif gender. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan, menentukan maksim yang paling sering dilanggar, serta menganalisis perbedaan pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan antara tokoh laki-laki dan tokoh perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Data penelitian berupa tuturan verbal yang mengandung pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan dalam dialog film. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik simak dan catat, kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan enam maksim kesantunan Leech, yaitu maksim kebijaksanaan, kedermawanan, penghargaan, kesederhanaan, permufakatan, dan kesimpatian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelanggaran terhadap keenam maksim tersebut ditemukan dalam dialog film, terutama pada interaksi yang diwarnai konflik sosial, dominasi kolonial, dan ketegangan emosional. Maksim penghargaan merupakan maksim yang paling sering dilanggar sebanyak 109 data atau 57,67%. Tokoh laki-laki cenderung menggunakan tuturan yang lebih langsung, dominan, dan konfrontatif untuk menegaskan otoritas serta status sosial, sedangkan tokoh perempuan memanfaatkan pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan sebagai bentuk perlawanan terhadap penindasan patriarkal dan kolonial. Pelanggaran tersebut tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penyimpangan linguistik, tetapi juga sebagai strategi pragmatik untuk mengekspresikan relasi kuasa, kritik, emosi, dan perlawanan sosial. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap kajian pragmatik dan bahasa berbasis gender dengan menunjukkan bahwa pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan dalam dialog film berkaitan erat dengan ideologi, hierarki sosial, dan identitas gender. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia, khususnya pada kajian wacana dan analisis drama. This study investigates violations of the politeness principle in the dialogues of the film Bumi Manusia, directed by Hanung Bramantyo, by applying Geoffrey Leech's politeness theory and a gender perspective. The study aims to identify the forms of politeness principle violations, determine the most frequently violated maxim, and analyze the differences in politeness principle violations between male and female characters. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a pragmatic approach. The data consisted of verbal utterances containing violations of the politeness principle found in the film's dialogues. The data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques and were analyzed based on Leech's six politeness maxims: the Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim, and Sympathy Maxim. The findings reveal that violations of all six maxims occur throughout the film's dialogues, particularly in interactions characterized by social conflict, colonial domination, and emotional tension. The Approbation Maxim was the most frequently violated, accounting for 109 instances (57.67%) of the total data. Male characters tend to employ more direct, dominant, and confrontational utterances to assert authority and social status, whereas female characters use politeness principle violations as a form of resistance against patriarchal and colonial oppression. These violations function not only as linguistic deviations but also as pragmatic strategies for expressing power relations, criticism, emotions, and social resistance. This study contributes to the fields of pragmatics and language and gender studies by demonstrating that violations of the politeness principle in film dialogues are closely related to ideology, social hierarchy, and gender identity. Furthermore, the findings are expected to serve as a reference for Indonesian language learning, particularly in discourse studies and drama analysis.
