Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe the innovation used by the teacher in English online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of that innovation that the teacher used in English online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Cluring, Banyuwangi Regency, in which the EFL teacher of X MIPA class was the subject. There were two methods employed in collecting the data for the study, i.e., interview and observation. Furthermore, the instruments applied were interview guide and observation checklist. The results show that the instructional innovation applied by the teacher was the use of learning media. There are six types of learning media used by the teacher as innovation in teaching English online during the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e., WhatsApp, Google Form, Google Classroom, Zoom, YouTube video, and PowerPoint. Those were implemented in according to their use. Here, the teacher implemented WhatsApp by creating a group chat to provide information related to the learning. Moreover, the teacher implemented Google Form by creating test in the form of multiple-choice questions. Google Classroom was implemented by creating a group class to provide learning material for students before conducting class. In addition, the teacher implemented Zoom by carrying out online class meeting to conduct the learning process, which included pre-activity, main-activity, and post-activity. Additionally, YouTube video and PowerPoint were implemented by displaying them on Zoom’s screen during the online learning process.
